To this effect, the concepts of Smart Phone, Smart City, Smart Development, Smart Education and Smart People have evolved, helping us navigate the modern world with better ease and efficiency.
Currently, our goal is to create 100 Smart Cities. Our definition of a city is still guided by the Census of India, so this entails first understanding that in the average Indian city, half the population lives in unplanned settlements and more than 60 per cent of the overall urban population thrives on the informal income sector. So while making cities SMART, will this population be expelled or made to resettle in fringe communities?
Our Concept of a SMART City aims to be inclusive as well as sustainable. Development must be in phases and also selective in its targets for maintaining overall sustainability.
